Charges at town centre car parks suspended to support essential businesses
The decision is part of increased measures from the District Council to restrict the spread of Coronavirus and comes on the same day that the council announced it would be closing its foreshore visitor car parks until further notice.
It is also hoped the suspension of charging supports those town centre businesses that are permitted to be open to sell essential items.

Hide AdCoun Adam Grist, Portfolio Holder for Market Towns and Rural Economy, said: “We’re doing everything in our power to restrict the spread of this virus. By temporarily making these car parks free we can reduce the number of shared surfaces that people might come into contact with.
"Everyone’s health and safety is obviously the most important factor in making this decision. However, it also hopefully means that people who need to make that journey to purchase essential supplies will be encouraged to use the independent shops that are still trading – supporting local businesses and relieving the burden being placed on our supermarkets.”
