THE Mixed Fours from Louth Indoor Bowls Club were in county league action at Skegness recently and although missing three or four regular players they put up a decent fight before eventually losing on all five rinks despite holding the lead on two rinks after 11 ends.
The four skipped by John Welsh held a two shot lead midway through their game but picked up only two more shots to lose 20-13.

Bernard Gowshall’s rink were three up at the same stage but dropped a six on the next end as Skegness went on to win 23-14.

Harry Putland’s four looked in for a thrashing when they trailed 15-3 after nine ends but they quickly picked up a four and a three and also won the last four ends before just losing out by 20-17.

There was also a grandstand finish from Alan Watson’s rink which had been 16 shots behind with six ends to play, but although five of those ends were won the deficit was too much to overturn and the home rink won 30-23.

There was no fightback from Mick Boswell’s four, however. They had a bad start and didn’t manage to make an impact as they went down 23-15.

* Evening Fours: Division 1 leaders Alikatz made it nine wins out of nine with a narrow 17-14 win over Blossom Way whilst Questors remain adrift and pointless at the bottom after losing 19-10 against Alford.

In Division 2, Wayouts stay four points in front after beating Fleet 18-17 thanks to three shots on the last end.

Second placed Taylor Made also came up with three on the final end to beat Salamanders 15-12.

* Ladies Triples: Jayees go from strength to strength and stay four points clear after beating Anglers 17-7. Canaries flew to the top of Division 2 with an 11-9 win over Birdies.

* Afternoon Triples: Rustics threw away a two shot lead over Birds to lose 12-8 but remain at the top even though challengers Dolphins won 21-10 against Roses. Division 2 leaders Louth also lost 13-9 against Ludos, but still hold a three point advantage over Trevs.

* Friday Mixed Pairs: Division 2 leaders Stainton & Spence suffered a surprise defeat against the Ness duo who scored a monster seven on the last end to win 18-10. Taking over the lead are the Sykes whose storming finish against Picketts brought them 11 shots over the last four ends to win 17-14.

* Mens Over 60: Little Sparks took over top spot on shots difference thanks to a 17-9 win over Roadrunners. The battle of the top two in Division 2 went the leader’s way as Sparkites beat Legends 13-12. This allowed Louth to slip into second place with a 15-12 win over Rotary.

* Monday Morning Triples: With leaders Tornados not playing, Vikings took over top spot with a 14-11 win against Stymies.
