LOUTH Town made hard work of beating New Holland Villa 3-0 in the Lincs FA County Cup on Saturday to set up a local derby at Louth United in the next round.
Despite having first team regulars Paul Watts, Phil Winters, Mark Hallam and Kurt Crossley missing, Town were still able to field a strong team but gave a disjointed performance and despite dominating possession early on conceded the first chance of the game when Sam Hilley's shot from distance was easily dealt with by Craig Wherry.
Town eventually got into their stride going close through James Archer and Jamie Rowbotham before home keeper made his first save of the afternoon from Mike Armstrong.
The deadlock was broken after 16 minutes when Stuart Hutton nicked the ball off a home defender on the edge of the Villa area before delightfully chipping Wilson.
Dany Casey almost doubled the lead but fired just past the near post and then Zach Bolton gave Town a fright when he tried an audacious 30 yard chip which sailed narrowly over the crossbar with Craig Wherry back peddling.
New Holland were defending stoutly but fell further behind with five minutes to go to the break when Ryan Anglin managed to chip Wilson and despite the burly keeper getting a finger tip to the shot, he could not prevent it trickling over the line.
Anglin went close again when his shot was cleared off the goal-line with Wilson beaten.
The home side almost got them selves back in the game at the start of the second half when Jamie Beveridge brought a good save out of Craig Wherry and at the other end James Archer blazed over in an early bout of activity.
Despite Town enjoying the lion's share of the procession they were restricted to half chances with the keeper saving from Ryan Anglin and Stuart Leafe and Mike Armstrong firing just over.
Dan Casey then unluckily saw a shot cannon back off a post and just to let Town know they were still in a game, Michael Gleiner forced Craig Wherry to tip his 25 yard free-kick over the crossbar.
With 10 minutes to play Town made the game completely safe when Jamie Rowbotham took advantage of a defensive mistake to fire beyond Wilson.
Dan Casey's volley flew just over as did Beverages shot at the other end and at the final whistle, New Holland had made Town work very hard to progress to the next round and set up a mouth watering local derby against Louth United to be played at Saltfleetby on December 6.
Town return to league action on Saturday when Kiveton Park are the visitors to Park Avenue, kick-off 2pm.
Town: Wherry, Callaby, Davison, Walden (Capt), Appleby, Archer, Hutton, Rowbotham, Anglin, Casey, Armstrong. Subs: Leife, Hopper.
