LOUTH student and paralympic star Hollie Arnold was named Lincolnshire Sports Personality of the year at a top awards ceremony on Sunday night.
Hollie, 14, from Holton le Clay and a pupil at Cordeaux School, received a standing ovation as she collected her trophy at the Annual Lincolnshire Sports Awards at Lincolnshire Showground's new Epic Centre.

She also received the Young Disabled Athlete award on the night.

Hollie, who was born without her right hand or forearm, trains in Sheffield and is the World Junior Champion in javelin, discus, and shot.

This summer she had the honour of being one of the youngest members of the GB Paralympic Athletics team at the Beijing Olympics.

The county's top sporting stars were at the awards hosted by the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership.

Amongst 260 guests coaches, clubs, volunteers, and participants were honoured in 13 categories, ranging from Young Sportsman to Lifetime Achievement.

Ashton Turner, 12, from Alford who trains at Kenwick Park Golf Club in Louth, was named Young Sportsman 2008.

He competed in the World Juniors Championships earlier this year where he won the rankings of 1st European, 7th International and 23rd World.

Ashton, who was introduced to golf as a form of physiotherapy when he was just three, is a regular competitor in senior competitions and is the current County Captain for U15 boys.

The other local success story of the night was Covenham Sailing Club which was runner up in the Community Club category.

Emma Burke of Lincolnshire Sports Partnership said: "The awards get bigger and better year on year, this year we received over 200 nominations from members of the public, and the panel had a near impossible task of short listing the nominees.

"The level of sporting talent in Lincolnshire is great and each year the awards evening provides an excellent vehicle to celebrate the county's sporting success."
