FOLLOWING his four goal performance in Louth Town's Lincolnshire Cup victory in their last game, Jamie Rowbotham was handed a first league start by Paul Walden and the young forward repaid his manager's faith with four stunning goals as Town destroyed Thorne Colliery 6-2 on Saturday.
The playing conditions at Thorne did not lend themselves to good football as driving rain and a swirling wind did their best to spoil the contest, yet despite the shock of going a goal down for the first time this season, the White Wolves recovered to win comfortably.
Paul Watts was just wide with a header and home keeper, Robert Chester did well to tip over a Mike Armstrong effort as Town began strongly, but it was Thorne who snatched a shock lead after 18 minutes.
Chris Myers was given too much space at the far post following a corner and the forward gratefully prodded home.
Despite Town playing the more cultured football, the home keeper was largely untroubled until Jamie Rowbotham darted into the area to level for the visitors after good link up play between Mark Hallam and Paul Watts had set him free five minutes before the break.
Mike Armstrong and Paul Watts both failed to make the most of good opportunities to give Town the lead and so the two sides remained level at the end of the first 45 minutes.
The rain abated for the start of the second half and the home side had a chance to restore their advantage in the opening exchanges but Craig Wherry produced a good save to deny Myers.
From that moment on, Town largely dominated proceedings as first Brooks cleared off his own goal line to deny Ben Davison and then keeper Chester, produced two finger tip saves to foil Paul Watts.
Jamie Rowbotham then beat Chester but his shot flew agonisingly just wide of the far post but the young forward was soon celebrating his second goal of the game as he gave Town the lead with 30 minutes to play.
Collecting a long ball from Craig Wherry there looked no danger as he was out numbered by three defenders but he evaded their challengers before lashing the ball in from 25 yards.
Within five minutes Rowbotham had completed a stunning hat-trick when he latched on to good ball from Paul Watts to score from a narrow angle.
With the home side visibly tiring, the game was over as a contest when Rowbotham raced on to a through ball from Andy Appleby to give Town a 4-1 lead, the unstoppable striker having scored three goals in six exciting minutes.
Ben Davison scored a fifth for Town when he got on the end of a James Archer free-kick at he far post to head inside the near post but Paul Walden was then furious with his defence as they allowed substitute Lee Mason to get on to a long ball over the top to run on unchallenged and score past Craig Wherry.
Ryan Anglin then scored an injury time goal at the second attempt for Town to complete the scoring after a determined run down the right.
