THIS was a pulsating cup tie played in the best of spirits by two teams with equal determination.
As there was no referee allocated once again, Mariners manager Brian Damms did the first half, and M Farmer from the home side the second and extra time and penalties.
The first half was well competed with both teams going near but Marrowbone having the edge.
With five minutes to go Damon Short collected a well passed ball and beat the offside trap slotting home from the left wing.
The second half saw Mariners steam ahead with goals from Stuart Davy with a screamer, Dids finished clinically to make it 3-0 and the game seemed over until Marrow clawed one back.
Inspired by this they added two more to take it into extra time, Fraz seemed to have won the tie for Mariners but another equaliser set it up for penalties.
Mariners after going behind on penalties then scored eight to Marrowbones seven, their eighth being blasted over the bar by the unlucky kicker.
Louth's penalty scorers were Johny Bates, Jay Gowshall, Luke Pocklington, Dids Kendal, Byron Staples, Phil Steele, Milky Andrew and Shane Rickets.
Mariners battle Theddlethorpe at Legbourne on Saturday, players report at 1.30pm.
